dimmer hum

I replaced fan/light dimmer switch. The wiring is correct. But there is a loud hum when I turn on the fan. Not the light.
The old one was a Hunter 27182.Fan 1.6 amp max.light 300 watt max.No buzz.
The new one is a Enerlites Fan Speed Control....fully variable 5 amps. lights 300 watt max
Why is it buzzing. ? I disconnected the fan lead for now. But I want to use it soon.
any ideas from an electrician who knows light control installs..thanks

Sometimes it's the series of controls that is louder. Sometimes an individual one is louder.
There is no way of stopping it from humming outside of changing it.

I assume if I go to a regular double switch, non dimmer, that it won't hum..

Yes, no dimmer, no hum. Two switches requires 2 separate hot wires going from the switch box to the fan/light. If you don't have that capacity, you will have to install a cable between the switch box and the fan/light.

I have romex 2 wire to the fan/light. But I was planning on a double paddle switch. One switch for light and one for fan. on /off. Then use pull chain on the fan,Harbor Breeze 44 inch for speed.. That will work,no?
