old fixture worked fine. When I took the old fixture out, I saw this extra wire outside the box. It didn’t seem to be attached to anything. So I connected the white to white, black to black. Capped the green. But now light constant on and switch doesn’t work. No other lights in this circuit. What did I do wrong?

Connect it to the same two wires as the old fixture.
