Closet Light Conundrum
Hi all. Newbie here with very little electrical experience and i'm hoping to tap into the collective expertise.of this forum
i have three 6" canned lights in my closet (L1, L2 & L3). L1 and L3 are regular lights but L2 has an integrated night light. in order to switch between regular and night light you simply toggle the light switch off and on.
My dream is flick the switch and all 3 lights come on. when i flick the switch off, L1 and L3 will stay off but L2 will flip to night light.
in order to achieve this i bought a SPDT toggle switch from Leviton (ON/OFF/ON). L1 and L3 are wired together and connected to pole A on the switch. i then hooked two separate wires from L2 and connected one to pole A and the second to pole B. i've included a rough diagram that hopefully explains what did.
Now as you probably know (and i have now since discovered) this does not work. When i toggle between poles A and B all the lights come on (L2 toggles between light and night light). Is there any way i can achieve what i'm looking for.
I hope this makes sense and thanks in advance. for any advice you can provide.

You need a dpdt switch so the L2 can be completely separate L1 and L3. L1 L3 get connected one pole one side. L2 gets connected to other pole both sides.
