Outlet box rated for ceiling fans?

Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to tell from these pictures if my outlet box is acceptable for fan support?

Thanks very much for any help you're able to provide!

Welcome to the forums.

No... that electrical box is not rated for fan duty.
It looks like a joist mounted 4" round box. Try removing the screws in the back of the box and it should just drop down thru the ceiling giving you a better idea of what you have.

oops, thanks for adding the pictures into the body

So if I remove the screws in the back and drop it down to see what's behind, what exactly should i be looking for to know if it's good or not?

Thanks very much for your reply!

Fan rated boxes are usually stamped on the bottom. They also have more robust connection for the mounting screws. If you look at your box it only has the bent over ears/tabs which are not rated for much weight.

Thanks for the reply! Is there anything i can do to reinforce it? Does it just entail buying and installing a new outlet box? not sure if this video gives any more information that would help https://streamable.com/nu80f

Hi, replace the box, assuming the box that is there is 1 1/2 deep this box will work.
