Attic fan motor - need to remove motor
Hi,
i have an attic fan that stopped working this past summer.
I would like to remove the motor but i was unable.,
the motor also has about four metal wires that seem
to hold the motor and fan in its place.
Any advice on how I should remove the motor
greatly appreciated
acm

The motor support rods are probably threaded on the ends you cannot see (on the outside of the housing) and nuts hold the rods/motor in place
To get at them you will have to pull the fan assembly/housing. Unfortunately it does not look like you can do this as the housing looks to be under wood paneling or something else on the right side of the picture.
If it is correct that you cannot pull the housing then you could try turning the rods with vice grips.
OR just cut the rods off.
MAKE SURE THAT THE POWER IS OFF
Also you did not say if you just wanted to remove the fan (for at least some air flow) or replace/repair it.
If you are just removing it then be sure to terminate the wiring correctly.

That fan is controlled by a thermostat and comes on when the air temp in your attic gets high. The fan works with your air conditioner to keep the living spaces cool.
Are you thinking to replace it? If not it may be easier to leave it in place, because it will serve as a guide if someone does go to replace it.

That's basically not a serviceable exhaust fan. You'll need to use a roofer as that fan is on top of the roof sheathing and the roofing was installed around it. Now the roofing would need to be removed in order to replace the unit.

The fan in the picture below is the most common style and is easily serviceable.... even in the attic. The blue circles show three self tapping bolts from the outside in. Some have them from the inside out. Then there is a belly band that goes around the motor. You can undo the three red bolts and the motor comes right out.
On yours...... there is no removable belly band. It looks like with yours..... where the frame in the picture uses three bolts in the blue circles...... your motor mount goes thru those holes and has nuts on the outside. Most of these fans have a removable metal dome that you can take off for servicing. If not..... it will take two people to get your motor out.
