ceiling light/fan turns on by itself
I have two remote controlled ceiling light/fans in different rooms, different manufacturers. Westinghouse and Savoy House. One's over two years old, the other about nine months old.
Recently the lights started occasionally turning on spontaneously. Not at the same time. It happens at verious times. Once it was early in the morning...no one was up, no one was turning anything on or off in the house.
It happens when the fans are on, but the lights are off.
Any ideas?

I'd start by checking the wall switch.
Kill the power to that circuit, pull the switch out of the wall, disconnect the wires (making sure to mark the wires, take a picture on your phone or make a drawing of where the wires go first) and check the leads on the switch with a volt/meter set to Ohms and turn the switch on and off a bunch of times.

I doubt it is the switches as they are on different switches.
Have you recently added anything electronic in the house.
If yes then it may be causing the problem.
You could try changing the codes on the fan's receiver and transmitter.
Doing this on the receiver is a pain as often it requires dismantling/uninstalling the fan.
A possible culprit would be a neighbors garage door opener they can often cause problems because their transmitters are fairly powerful.

Thanks to all, as usual, great responses. I will start with the relatively "easy" fixe... changing the code on the remote. It seems to happen late in the evening and this morning it was really early. I am about 100% sure my neighbor is not up or moving his car in or out at those times. But will keep an eye out for that being the issue also.
