Light Bulbs used in home

After reading about the dangers of Halogen light bulbs and the poor quality of incandescent light bulbs what other options are there for lamps?

It's hard to find incandescent bulbs now days. I've never had an issue with halogen bulbs in a fixture [need to be sized correctly]. Florescent bulbs are an option but most are switching to LED.

Almost all technologies other than LED (incandescent, fluorescent, halogen, quartz...) are on their way out. That makes LED the top pick for almost any/all lighting needs.

What do you mean by dangers of halogen light bulbs?

As stated above LED's are the wave of the future. However, incandescent they may have a resurgence since the current administration has relaxed rules on light bulb manufacturing.

LED bulbs have many advantages. Less power required is the most important and longevity as compared to incandescent.

They get awful hot so that may be what OP is expressing.

I agree, LED's are going to be the future, however I still use incandescent bulbs in all our walk in closets/pantries.

They are cheap and since they are only on for a few minutes it doesn't make sense to spend $8 per light to switch!

The biggest thing I like about LEDs is how cool they run. If you have an open bulb in the closet and a wife like mine that's prone to overload the top shelf, they reduce the risk of fire if something slides partway off of the shelf and makes contact with the bulb. I also like how you can up the wattage in fixtures for brighter lighting.
