SturdiMount for exterior light; junction box location.
Hello,
I am mounting my exterior, carriage style, lights onto SturdiMount blocks.
I've attached a picture of one in case you're not familiar.
These blocks are around one inch thick, so, if I mount the junction box to the sheathing, there's a pretty sizeable gap that the mounting screws need to span. Plus, there is a large void where the wires would roam.
On the other hand, the SturdiMount face, which is fiber cement, does not lend itself to mounting directly to it.
When considering junction boxes, please keep in mind that one of the boxes needs to contain wiring for a fixture, plus the connections to the Romex going to a second light.
How would you wire and mount an exterior, carriage style, light onto a SturdiMount?
Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't mount the box to the sheathing. I'd mount it in the block. Bring the wires in the back. Pre-drill holes in the block if you're afraid of splitting it. The boxes in the link have side brackets that grab as they're tightened and wouldn't require any screws. The mounting method is based on the expected weight of the fixture.

Thank you @joed & PJmax
@PJmax, I think I'll need to find an electrical supply store that's open on the weekend to pickup a box like the one you linked to. I didn't see any like that on the Home Depot or Lowes sites.
