dusk to dawn GE LED A19 60 w relacement 8w

I replaced a lamp bulb in Dining Room with the GE Dusk to Dawn bulb. Does my lamp need to be in the "on" position?
I've tried this but light stays on even when it's bright in the room. When I have lamp in off mode and the room is dark it doesn't come on. Do I need a special lamp base to use this bulb?

The switch needs to be in the on position to function.
How long did you wait for it go off? Sometimes there is built in delays so the light is not blinking with occasional flashes of light.

Also it probably depends how bright it is near the sensor. They are intended for use outside, typically in an exposed or semi-exposed fixture. It's usually much brighter outside than it is inside most rooms. I'm wondering if it's just not 'seeing' enough light and thinks it's dusk and is turning on.

Can you temporarily position a flashlight at its sensor? It should turn off in a minute or two.
