Removing exterior light fixture-question?

I want to remove a small exterior light fixture over a basement door - but NOT replace it, just refit a piece of vinyl siding over the opening. What do i do with the 3 exposed wires once the fixture is removed? thanks!

There should be a box behind a light fixture.
Can you post a picture of what you are working with ?
How-to-insert-pictures.

You need to install a waterproof exterior fixture box with a blank cover, and put that on your siding. The wires must remain accessible and cannot be hidden behind the siding.

If you want to side over the old box you need to remove the wiring at the source, probably the switch box. You can not hide a box with live wires in it.

Its been suggested I should disconnect the wires at the panel box when i remove the exterior fixture, but i might want to install another light at some point. would it be ok to disconnect the wires at the wall on/off switch instead, which would be easier than at the panel? (end result would be I'd have live wires running from panel to the on/off switch, but not to the exterior light box)
