3 Way Wifi switch showing current

I installed a 3 way switch and after installation I used the tester on the switch to confirm if it was safe to touch it. However the tester was showing current when I touched the switch. Is this normal and is it safe to touch it? The WiFi switch seems to be functioning normally but I am not afraid to touch it.

If the power is on then that is completely normal. There is voltage in the switch. Those tester are proximity. Some of them can sense voltage a couple of inches away from the wire.

Thanks. I am surprised to find out other things in the house that buzz when I try the tester on them...

Those testers have their place but are way too sensitive.

So lets say you have two wires running side by side.
And you disconnect, flip the breaker off etc.to one of them.
Then you check the disconnected wire with your tester.
It will most likely buzz saying there is power to that wire just from the voltage being generated in it from the live wire being beside it.

They are not meant to replace a multimeter.

Those testers were designed for one purpose..... to detect hazardous voltage in the area.
