Troubleshooting ceiling fan speed/bulb/remote incompatibility

I recently started having an issue where some of the ceiling fan speeds (MED/HIGH) were really loud and would never quite reach their full speed. I am a home automation geek and here is the setup:
- ceiling fan - not quite sure mfg/etc - 3 blades/3 speeds/2 light sockets for 60W bulbs
- Insteon FanLinc 2475F remote unit - http://cache.insteon.com/documentation/2475fqs-en.pdf
- Sylvania Lightify Zigbee Bulbs - 120VAC @60HZ, 86mA and 10W - model 73693 - These are color changing RGBWs that must be 100% brightness/fully on - They do adjust brightness but it is done via software

This setup was all working fine for a couple of years. When I started seeing issues, I decided to try another FanLinc remote controller, as I heard these could be temperamental and go bad. I popped a new FanLinc up there and noticed that the fan speeds were working fine as long as the lights were off (no power from the Fan Unit). I tried putting in some regular incandescent 60W bulbs and everything seems to be ok - fan speeds/lights that dim/etc So it seems there is some type of power issue I guess with some of the fan controllers and these fancy RGBW zigbee bulbs - I am not sure.

I was hoping to replicate this setup in some other rooms but now I am weary. If you have any tips for troubleshooting these incompatibilities please pass along..
