New construction recessed lighting

Located in Upstate NY if there are any code considerations.

I'm finishing a pool house and plan to install recessed lighting. Lights will be on sloped ceilings so will need gimbal fixtures. I’m just wondering what is the most common practice these days- installing cans, or the flat mounting frames? Is either one more versatile?

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I personally like the traditional cans since they allow the most flexibility for the future. With them you can use a modern surface saucer LED or install a traditional screw in light bulb. With the flat mount frame you don't have the option of traditional screw in light bulbs. The surface frame will be better for insulation than the older style recessed can.
