Ceiling Fan Reverse switch

At one property, the ceiling fan works when the blades blow downward. When reversed with the unit switch to blow upward, the fan doesn't work at all on any speed. Would replacing the reverse switch correct the problem?
If not what? Could having operated the reverse switch while the fan is running have caused the problem? Thanks!

Not likely. I'd check for a bad reversing switch or possibly a wire fell off of it.
