Issue with bathroom light and fan

Hi
i have just fitted an extractor fan in my bathroom and wired it to the pull cord light switch. It is on a 2wire circuit with live, neutral and earth.

now the issue is that when the light switch is turned on the fan turns on and the light goes slightly dim. Then when you turn the light switch off the fan goes off but the light goes very bright. I have messdd EDF up the wiring some how I guess but unsure what I have done.

sny help would be much appreciated

So are you saying you have both a wall light switch and a pull cord switch?

I suspect you have a corroded, loose or bad connection somewhere. Not enough power can get past the bad connection for both the light and fan causing the light to dim when the fan is running. I would check all the wiring connections (switch, up at the light/fan...) to make sure the wires are shiny copper without corrosion and the same for the connections on the switch and fan.

Sounds like you wired the fan and light in series or you tapped into a switch loop to power the fan.
If you tell us how you wired the fan and light we can help your sort it out.

Hi.

Thank you for your replies.

So the light and the pull cord are separate units and I wired the fan directly to the pull cord.

You should wire the fan directly to the black and white power feeding the light.
