New light connect to two three way switches wont turn off

I just replaced a light fixture in my kitchen. It is connected to two three way switches. I had to relocate the light and put in a box where they hadnt used one before. So I disconnected the old wire and connected a new wire in the junction box. There were only three wires and I believe I reconnected them all to the same wires (Black, white and ground). Now neither switch works and the light stays on constantly. Do the wires I connected directly at the fixture matter in their placement? Meaning if I swap the white and black at the fixture will that fix the problem?

If there were only three wires then you can not get it wrong. There must have been other wires and got them wrong.
Swapping the white and the black will do nothing.

We don't count ground as a wire in wire count.
However since you only have two wires plus the ground.... it appears that someone may have used the ground wire in the switching.

Check and make sure there are no other wires in the box.
You haven't changed the wiring at the switches and they were working ok ?
You will probably need a meter or a two wire voltage tester.

There are several different ways a three way circuit can be wired. Searching online you'll find diagrams that should help. Here are a couple I found:
