Update ceiling fan wiring

I currently have a ceiling fan that is wired with 14-3 and two switches. One switch for the light and one for the fan. The new ceiling fan I would like has a remote and only needs a 2 wire setup to run both. My question is, can I use the "extra" switched hot to power something else such as a couple of can lights? Can I simply use the red as the hot and tie into the white and green to run another line of lights? Thanks Eric

Certainly. You would be repurposing the wiring and the switch.
Typically the black would be used for the fan and the red would be the switched lights but it can be either way.
