Question How can I turn a floor lamp, that emits light upward, into a reading light?

I copypaste https://physics.codidact.com/posts/280486 below.

How can I turn this floor lamp into a reading light? I want all light exiting upwards from the lamp shade to point down.

Do I just buy a mirror and put it on top of the lamp shade? Then the mirror can reflect down any light. But is this safe? I use a fluorescent light bulb, but it still heats up! I don't want a fire hazard.

I would look for a different shade with a smaller hole at the top and large hole at the bottom.
Perhaps something more this shape?

That looks like a standard/inexpensive light so I'd move it somewhere else in the house. I would buy a new light in a style you want instead of trying to modify that one.
