Ceiling fan just beeps. Where to start - wall or ceiling?
We have 2 ceiling fans that are 10+ years old? that we just leave running all the time.
They have an electronic control on the wall to control fan direction and speed.
1 unit works fine.
1 has been problematic... after power outage, it is a pain to start. Press the speed button and you hear a faint beep at the fan and it jerks a tiny bit. After dozens of that press / beep, it finally starts working.
Any advice if you think it's the fan (capacitor?) or circuit on wall.
THANKS!!
Yeah, I can swap the wall modules and see where the problem is, but if you think, I'd start at fan...

This ceiling box in our dining room was capped but left by the builder is attached to two different light switches on the wall. There are a number of pass thru wires for other canned lights in the ceiling. For this junction box there is a single yellow wire on the right (with white paint on it) that is ready for a lamp. In the photo, you can see the second white / grey wire is a big "loop" (see photo) and passes thru the box with no exposed ends currently.
To hang a ceiling lamp, I need two lines. My understanding is that the yellow wire is likely the "hot" line and can be attached and the second "loop" wire just needs to have a section of the coating removed so that it can be attached and that is likely the return wire.
Does this sound correct? I am thrown by the "loop" wire which currently has no exposed ends. How would others handle this?
I have a new fan (no light) with 3 wires, black white and ground. I’m splicing into an existing 3 way switch for can lights, so there are 4 wires, black, red, ground and white. The switch will control both the cans and the fan, but the cans are smart bulbs so switch will just always be on, and fan will be controlled with remote.
Do I connect BOTH the black and red from the 3 way switch to the black on the fan? Or only connect the black and cap the red? I know ground to ground and white to white.
I’ve tried googling but only found every other variation except this one. Thanks!!
