Connecting pink wire

Iím replacing a light fixture on the exterior of our garage wall. Coming from the wall there are 3 wires: black, white and pink (no bare copper). In the new light fixture there are: black, white and green. Iíve seen on many forums that pink wires are common where a ceiling fan once existed but thatís not the case here (external wall). I assume I connected black-black, white to white, and screw green to the box Ö but what to do with the pink?

Is this a three way circuit (two switches control the light)?

unfortunately the carpentry contractor removed the old fixture, so I didn't see how it was wired before

Its an old garage so may have had two switches originally, but not currently. It is one of 2x lights (either side of the garage door), but both are controlled by one switch now.

I would try white and red. If that doesn't work then try white and black.
One setup will probably work with the switch and the other probably will be always on.

You may have had old three wire cable with no ground. That would be fairly old.
Connect the light.... white to white, black to black, cap off the red/pink wire, don't connect green.
See if that works.

If the light won't shut off..... move the black light wire to red/pink and cap off black in box.
