We're trying to replace our over the range microwave with an Under Cabinet mount OTR hood. I actually replaced the drywall where the microwave was before because it had numerous holes and was covered with either mold or soot. I also replaced the wall damper, because everything is open so why not. Now here's the issue. The vent hole that was previously cut is flush with the bottom of the cabinetry. As you can see from the photos below, the exhaust on the hood is about 1/2"-3/4" down, meaning the cabinetry is in the way of lining up the exhaust. I'm not sure what the easiest solution might be. However this may explain why there was junk behind the microwave, I question how good the previous seal was. Best solutions?
I've got some flat LED lights in my kitchen and recently one of them has begun flickering. Is there a particular way to troubleshoot one of these? It seems like it will flicker when it turns on but then stops flickering after a few minutes. This is the kind of light I'm talking about:

I'm looking for ideas to replace this ugly-a** light fixture in our kitchen. It's always been a pain when it comes to replacing the bulbs because that cover barely hangs on the edges of the box.
So, a few questions:
What could we replace this with that looks more modern?
How difficult is it removing the old box? Is it something I could do myself? I have no problem cutting the power, ripping out the old housing for the electrical bulbs and dealing with the electrical wiring (I typically would use a wire nut on each bare wire and tape it as well for good measure).
Our house has a popcorn ceiling, so Ideally, I'd want something big enough to cover the old space but have a more updated light fixture.
