thank you in advance can someone explain to me ho to install ceiling fan i obviously watched youtube videos but when i removed the ceiling fan that was previously there it has a red wire ? this is old tube wiring btw what it looked like when i removed ceiling fan
ps the old one was just a fan im replacing with a fan with light if that makes a difference
Very important..... that is not a fan rated electrical box.
It needs larger screws and the box needs to mount solidly.
That box moves now.... correct ?
You have three wires between that box and the switch. The white wire is neutral, the black is typically always live and the red is switched. The red or black can be switched. So in your case.... the red is currently a spare and is not in use. The black and white are probably switch controlled.
thanks for the reply but yes its just in there loosely i was surprised it wasnt mounted but the previous one was pretty stable? do i need to replace this box
idk if you know what i mean but when i connect the new fixture will it operate the same way? for example its not ran by the switch… it just turned on/off when i pull fan string… will wi still work that way but with the light as well?
ok that makes a lot of sense (this is my living room) when i enter my home there are 2 switches 1 controls the outlets the other controls the front porch but the ceiling fan controls itself….
Attached is a photo my the light switch in my office at work. The motion sensor turns the light off after about 3 minutes. Our facilities hasn't gotten back to me on how to adjust the time or disable the motion sensor.
Does any one know how??

Hello everyone. New here, so essentially I am doing a little pet project of recreating a natural habitat for a reptile my friend is giving me. The enclosure is 4x2x2 but I plan on upgrading it eventually to an 8x4x4 or larger... as they grow rather large.
So I thought about using these really high lumens light on a dimmer so that I don't have to keep buying new lights. While there are lights made for reptiles I wanted to try my hand at doing something myself.
I am trying to make it so that this light could be used like a regular light fixture (think of an aquarium hoodlight or a lamp or something portable).
I went to home depot, the guy told me if I wanted to do that I needed to get this thing with the 3 wires and make it so that I could wire that which has a 3 prong wall plug and attach it to a some wires in there.. I understand nothing about this, thought about hiring an electrician but some people are asking for 200$... so I thought I might give it a shot myself first....
I am hoping you guys could figure out how to work that out.
Getting a plug-in type of dimmer... basically you plug the light into the dimmer, and the dimmer into an outlet....
