Unfortunately it looks like someone cut out the receiver for them and hardwired them to wall switch that only turns on and off the light. I was hoping there would be someway to install a universal receiver and get the fans working again. I'm usually decently handy but cannot figure out how to do this and was hoping someone here might know!
I tried to diagram out the wiring as best as possible and included a picture. I can try to take more if asked.
That is unfortunate that the receivers were just cut out. They are replaceable if you have the board number. Based on your diagram I don't know which board you need. These aren't the basic remote receivers. These are the ones where the speed control parts are contained within. You could try contacting the manufacturer to see if you can either order the part or at least get the part number.
To contact Harbor Breeze customer service, call the manufacturer at Fanim Industries on 1-888-434-3797 between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or the parent company Litex at 1-800-527-1292 between 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Have the model number on-hand when you call.
I can't figure out how to remove the light fixture shown in the photo. I can see that it is suspended from two points. If I look up into the holes through the tin foil and insulation, I see ends of screws; in other words, the threaded end of the screws points downward. As nearly as I can tell, the screws go through slots in a base plate and rotation of the light fixture seems to be necessary to get the screw heads, or nuts on the screws, to rotate into a position where they will come through those slots. But, I've encountered more resistance than expected and have not yet succeeded in getting screws heads to pass through slots and then drop down so that I can see, and disconnect, wiring on the fixture from wiring in the electrical box above.
I'm sure whether I just need to use more force or use a different technique to remove this old light fixture base. The fixture is in the ceiling of a room on the ground floor of a 2-story residence. So, I don't have the option to access it from and attic.
Note: I was going to post a photo but I don't see the option to do that in this case.
I'm doing a lot of reading about under cabinet LED lights but wondering if there are some unique things to consider with my application. We have a home office with a 64" L X 33" H bulletin board on the wall that is flush to the desk. That is, the desk faces the wall. Above the bulletin board are cabinets that span the length. I want to light the bulletin board without having direct light in my eyes while sitting at the desk. The cabinets have a 2" bottom trim board. Should I mount the lights on the back of the trim board facing the bulletin board? Would that light the full height of the bulletin board? Should the lights be mounted directly under the cabinets, facing down, close to the trim board? What about at a 45 degree angle behind the trim board? Thanks much!
