Half the Monorail System

Hope someone can help. We changed our our pendant lights on the monorail that was already installed in the house. It has one isolating connector in the center, the whole rail system is about 20 feet long. All the lights work on 1/2 of the rail system, but if we put any of the lights on the other side of the isolating connector none will light up. The only thing that happened when we were replacing the lights was that one of the monorail standoff's came out of the ceiling. Other than that nothing changed.

Sounds like you've lost the connection to the rail. Start by looking at the areas you worked on especially where something "came off".

This morning I was able to get the monorail standoff's back in place using toggle bolts.

Right, agree, have been up and down the rail. It seems to be after the isolating connector and I am not familiar with what those do?? anyone know?

An isolation connector... wait for it... isolates those two pieces of track separating them electrically. So, if you have an isolation connector it usually means there is another power connection to the other section of track. I have seen more track installed for aesthetics and not powered. But, if yours was previously working you need to find what has changed or quit working. Did a wire come loose? Is the power connector connected to the track? Is the power supply working?

Thanks for your responses, I ended up calling the manufacturer and sending photos and information, this was his response:"I looked at your picture. Your monorail system is split into two separate electrical circuits at the midpoint by using the straight isolating connector. You have direct end power feed canopies on both columns. Both direct end power feed canopies are wired to remote transformers. The reason the pendants on the right side don’t work relates to the remote transformer powering that section of rail."

Unfortunately for us we think that the transformers are in the walls, so this is not going to be fun.

Anyway, in case someone else has the same issue.

Yes.... two transformer monorails. I have seen them.
I have never seen those transformers installed in the walls..... ever.
That would have been a very irresponsible installation with the heat those generate.

Typical locations are attic and basement. Sometimes in a closet.

Hi, are there 2 switches controlling this monorail? is there an attic above?

Thank you - we found them in the crawl space. All we had to do was reset them and everything is working now.
Thank you for your responses.
