Ceiling fan works without transmitter, doesn't work with transmitter
I installed a Patriot ceiling fan Model No. 355-0703 and when I remove the transmitter for the remote the light turns on and the fan turns by just flipping the single wall switch. When I install the transmitter, there is no power at all to the light or the fan, nothing works at all. I've checked the connections, batteries, DIP settings...do I need a special kind of wall switch or is there something I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated greatly. I can leave the transmitter out, but there are no chains on this fan so it's either fan and lights on or fan and lights off.

Welcome to the forums.
The handheld part is the transmitter.
The box that goes in the fan is the receiver.
Fan requires always live power.... no additional switch.
I couldn't find the exact installation instructions for your fan but it was a similar Patriot fan,
There should be a receiver with approx five wires.
White and black at one end are power in.
White, blue and black are basic fan and light. May have orange.
Follow specific wiring supplied in installation instructions.
The transmitter should be already set to match the receiver. Typically there are DIP switches in both that need to match. That should also be in the instructions.
Did you put a 9v battery in the remote ?

Sorry, I said that backward! So the receiver, the box in the fan has black and white on one side and black, white, and blue wires on the other side. I connected the black and white on the one end to the black and white (B to B and W to W) from the ceiling. On the other side black, white, and blue, I connected to the black, white, and blue from the fan, respectively. I checked the battery and made sure the DIP switches matched. There is no response from the fan or the light when I use the wall switch or the remote. I took the receiver out and connected the ceiling black wire to the fan black and blue wire, and connected ceiling white to fan white. Both light and fan turn on with the wall switch. Normally I would just go without the remote, but there is nowhere on this fan to adjust the light or fan speed unless using the remote so it's either all the way on or all the way off.

Those systems are fairly reliable and should come pre-coded to work out of the box.
The receiver should make clicking noises as the fan buttons are pressed.
If you hear nothing.... and no operation... that leaves a defective remote control system.
You can buy that receiver and remote as a kit.
Possibly you could swap it where you bought the fan.

There's no noise at all when pressing the remote system. That's why I was so confused. I was concerned it was a power issue from the ceiling and/or wall so I didn't want to make an exchange without some advice. Thanks!

You will need to check for 120vAC at the ceiling box when the switch is on and the fan is connected. You can do that with the fan hanging in the bracket and the receiver just hanging out. If the unit is not clicking.... it isn't getting power. I have no idea why. If your connections to the ceiling box are solid... it should work.

Thank you for all your help. After changing out 3 different wall switches a LeGrand paddle rocker finally worked. No idea why the others didn't but I'm not going to look a gift switch in the mouth at this point. Lol
