Burn marks on cord

I was in the process of installing a light and noticed the plastic appears to be melted a little bit and the ends are black. Burn mark is right over the hot wire. Anything to worry about or should I return the light? Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

They probably use a thermal stripper to remove the insulation before shipping.
That's not a problem.

Can that burned piece be cut out.... is it near the end ?

I would return it. I do not think a new lamp would have cord that looks like that. Ask to check the new one you get after the return and before you leave.

Thanks for the replies. The burned part can be cut and I still would have enough. The burned part isnít close to the end of the cord. My wife bought it from Homegoods but I may end up returning it to be safe.
