Flickering dimmer lights -- older switch, two bulb sizes
Hi --
We just moved into a house and the master bedroom lights are flickering sometimes when turning on or off and sometimes when changing the dimming level. We can stop it by just adjusting to a different dimmer level but it's obviously not working as desired. Wondering which of these variables is most likely causing it:

- The dimmer switch is probably from about 2005 -- works well with incandescent dimmer bulbs but might be not optimally handling load distribution (?) to the bulbs.
- Given the light fixture, if I use A19s for all 3 receptacles I cannot get the glass cover back on. I popped in an A15 on one side, give me enough room to get it on.

Verify lamps are tight in their socket and all electrical connections are tight. Use screw when device has both stab and screw connectors. Are the flickering lamps LED or incandescent? If LED, replace dimmer with a dimmer compatible with 3 LED lamps in parallel. If incandescent, test by bypassing the dimmer. If flicker stops, replace dimmer. If flicker remains, test by bypassing the on/off switch. If flicker stops, replace switch. If flicker remains, call an electrician.

Does the flickering occur when you are touching or moving the switch? If so I would look for any loose connections. If the flickering happens when nothing is being touched I suspect the dimmer or the bulbs if they are LED's. Incandescent bulbs will work with anything and if they flicker then I'd look harder at the dimmer and electrical connections.

Thank you for all of the replies. I will update my dimmer from the vintage 2004 or 2005 version to one that should handle LEDs optimally. Should it continue, will further investigate.
Again, thanks all for taking time to respond.
