Are DC fans truly quieter (less motor 'hum')?

Are DC fans truly quieter (less motor 'hum')?

Or are there certain brands (AC or DC) that are simply better/quieter?

We have a couple of existing fans in the house that are just too noisy for me. Both appear to be motor hum as the noise completely stops immediately upon clicking off or changing speeds. It's not the blades spinning or any sort of rattle or anything like that, it's just a hum/whatever when the motor is on.

Thank you.

Also, on a related note, what brands do you guys recommend? And do you generally get what you pay for? Per my other post, I was looking at a Fanimation, but now I'm not sure if spending 'just' $350 is a bad idea (when I see a lot of similar fans for upwards of $1k).

I want this to be a one and done, where I'm both happy with the fine immediately, and don't need to worry about it for 10+ years or more. Am I better off spending more to get better quality?

Here are some others I've come across:

https://www.amazon.com/Matthews-IR5H.../dp/B084Z4NCZQ

There are others who are fan-whisperers here, but I'll give my 2 cents.

DC motors are quieter both because of the way they work, and also they are usually used on higher quality (and higher priced) fans - which also means the rest of the components are higher quality too. Plus you get less of the electrical hum with DC motors.

In most cases, you do get what you pay for. The cheaper fans will use cheaper motors and cheaper bearings, making an overall louder fan. Pay more for a better manufacturer or better model, and you'll likely get better components.

I'll defer to others on recommendations on brands.

Hi all. Just wanted to follow-up and see if any of the 'fan-whisperers' had any suggestions on brands (or even models).

Thanks again.

I'm not in to high end ceiling fans. My go to brand is Hunter.
