Ignition Wiring

I HAVE A 89 4.3 MERCRUSIER ENGINE THAT WON'T START. I'M NOT GETTING SPARK OUT OF A NEW COIL. BOTH POST ON THE COIL ARE HOT WITH A LIGHT TESTER. WHAT WOULD MAKE BOTH POST HOT?

there is supposed to be voltage on both sides of the
coil. if the trigger is not functioning you wont get a spark.
Look inside the distributor, is the sensor corroded?
You can remove the green lead from the sensor module and strike it to ground to simulate a trigger pulse.
It should produce a spark at the coil.

Please be careful. no open fuel sources and no
getting shocked either.
