Mercruiser 140hp i/o lags when giving gas

I have a 1986 Searay Seville with a Mercruiser 140hp I/O. The motor runs like a charm except when first starting. When I first give it hard gas (out of the "No Wake" zone), it delays, then kicks in....or it stalls. It only happens when giving it a hard throttle. Any ideas? Thanks...

does it do it all day? Everytime you try to accellerate
hard? Could be the timing, or the carb, accell pump.

If it is an engine problem:

I would guess you also have a problem of running 1/2 or greater throttle and shutting it down to idle quickly.

I also am guessing you have fuel injection.

Need some adjusting.........

If not, perhaps your fuel is stale or has some water in it, or your fuel filter needs replacing.

Good Luck!
