Piming The Fuel Line

I'm new to boating. I just bought a 95 Johnson 112 SPL on a 17' bass boat. I replaced the bulb and fuel line. I can't seem to get it to prime and to get the air out of the line.

Any suggestions?

A lot of times the check balls will leak until they get
primed. Try holding the bulb vertically with it attached to
the engine. If that does not do it we will try something else.

Hello: John

Remove the priming bulb and allow fuel to gravity flow if possible.
The intent here is to try to determine if the are any fuel flow restrictions.

The fuel should flow and remain flowing at a continous full capacity rate for several minutes. If so, it can then be determined that fuel flow is not a problem.

If flow is not able to flow as indicated, look for any place in the entire fuel system where there could be a restriction.

Examples:
Fuel filter in the tank?
The bulb installed correctly?
Primer bulbs have directional arrows to indicate fuel flow direction.
The fuel tanks gas cap may have a restricted vent hole.
Try the same fuel flow test without the cap installed if there appears to be a problem with it on.

Attempt to prime without having the bulb attached to the inlet fuel line on the engine. You will have to insert a thin blade into the adaptor end to hold the shut off valve opened.

Thanks for the replies. I was just not giving the motor while turning it over enough time to allow the fuel to get into the lines.

Since this is my first boat I will likely bend your y'alls ears a lot. It is a big investment for me and I can't afford any "I should have asked before I did this" mistakes.

I have a low idle problem. Should I leave this to the professional?

Hi, in respect to your low idle problem,
It may be a carb circuit clog. but.. (you knew there would be
a but )lol. It could indicate a spark management problem that
could cause serious engine damage if not properly checked.
I feel that one trip to the doctor is in order.
Make sure they have a test tank and dynomometer.
