Bayliner speedo not working

I have a 21.5' Bayliner with a 302 that's one year old. The speedometer had worked on and off and when it quit working I'd blow out the petot hole and it'd work again for a while. Now it quit and I've blown the hole out and took a drill bit and just finger-reamed the hole, can't get it to work at all. Could it be the electronic pick-up? It's irratating, please help. LONNIE

We are going to assume the pitot is a stand alone unit
and not the one built into the mercruiser outdrive.
It works on air pressure, if you can get behind the dash disconnect the speedo hose from the gauge and
blow out the line to the transom. You may have to replace
the pitot tube, about ten bucks.

ok, then you probably did not drill deep enough.
Wood gets pounded into the hole underway.
The other thing is the connection sometimes pops off.
With the drive up follow the small tube down to the drive
and make sure it is properly clipped on.
