merc stalling

I have a 350 mercruiser 898 that starts real hard and when I do get it started I put it in gear or even neutral and give it throttle the rpms raise to about 2000 and then stalls. I have messed around with the choke thinking that was the problem I don't think it is , Maybe someone can help.

I made another post about this on a similar thread. Check the fuel pump and any filters on the fuel line. My dad and I have a 67 boat with a smaller mercruiser but the same situation and the problem was that it wasn't getting enough gas because the fuel pump was bad.
