Tilt/Trim Problem

I have an Evinrude, 85hp, about a '75 model, and the trim only works in the down mode. The motor runs well when the down switch is pushed but I only get a loud clunk noise from the relay area, when I push the up button. I haven't been able to get the motor back up. Is there a manual lift? can I by pass the hydraulics? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, DLC

there is, a pressure releif screw is on the side of the pump housing.
you can replace or bypass the faulty relay too.
