I have an older Volvo Penta AQ120B engine / 270 outdrive in my 1981 Cobia. It developed a leak in a fitting for the heat exchanger at the strainer housing. I repaired it with a new sealing ring, but had to remove the fresh water tank to get at it so I replaced the seals for it as well.
Seemed that the cooling system was operating well (except for the leaks) before I took it apart. Put it all back together and now it doesn't seem to get any water circulating through the heat exchanger when I use the hose and ear method. No water out the outdrive exhaust and the engine is over heating. Yes, I put water in the fresh tank and strainer well too.
The water gets very rusty looking too. Is the Impeller bad all of a sudden in the water pump? Thermostat was operating fine before the work. Just trying to fix a leaking boat but I am a novice at this so, help if you can!
Thanks!
