Boat steering

Hi, I am still quite new to boating, and need some info. I have a 1990 Glasstream 18' open bow boat and it stears very hard. It has a single cable rack & pinion system. I know that i can replace with another one of the same type, but i see in catalogs there is a rotary type that is supposed to be much better. Can you tell me if the rotary type will interchange with the rack & pinion type? I forgot to mention that it is a 4 cylinder I/O. Thank You, Don Reed E-mail [email protected]

You can purchase a steering kit from most marine dealers. They come with cable and helm. You might have to modify the hole that the helm fits into.
