Mercruiser 470 Hit bottom!!

We were boating today and unfortunately got into some shallow water and hit bottom. The propeller got mangled up and the bottom part of the lower unit got scratched but not cracked. The motor still runs fine but the propeller does not turn when in gear. The exhaust does still flow through the propeller as usual. Is there a shear pin, or does this sound like a major ordeal. Appreciate any help and advise as I am probably not the first one this has happened to.
Thanks,
Greg

Lost Prop

Not a shear pin , but a rubber hub that has let go.

The hub is an insert that is a real snug fit , but the prop will spin on it to protect the lower unit internals.

A good bang is not always required - I had one spin when I crossed a tugboat wake and the turbulence of the wake caused great resistance to my prop.

The hub method of construction is evident on this web page

Does prop shaft turn with boat out of water in gear and running? Can you hear gears shifting when going from forward to reverse?
