To much torque on wheel

Brother in law has a 20ft run-a-bout with a mercruiser I/O. There is so much torque on the steering wheel (pulls left) when first starting out it almost rips it from your hands. Once the boat planes out there is no problem with the steering. He changed the prop thinking that might be the problem. That wasnt it. Any ideas??

Thanks

Not sure I agree..... the trim tab will have some effect on acceleration - but is intended more for control "at speed"..... BUT - I'm not always right.... I'd love to know how it turns out if you play with the trim tab....... (always thirsting for knowledge)....

Was the prop a power prop or speed prop?Same D and pitch? Does the motor tack out at the right RPM? Lots of ifs here. Like on a airplane on take offwhen it goes to the left . Its called the P factor caused by the prop

No beer till 5 pm------ but its 5 pm some where in the world.

I'm inclined to consider the prop also - which sounds overpowered (to much pitch, to much blade) to me...

if you have a torque tab, looks like a small fin hanging down ,which is right above the prop.standding at the back looking the tab should be to the right just a little and that will take to torque out some but not all of it.
