mercruiser 470 mechanical fuel pump

im having fuel pump problems, can i convert from mech. pump to electric.

Not sure about on your merk . For the cost try it.Have always but one on my diesel in the sail boats for just back up, if pump goes out at sea.

I'm not familiar with the mercruiser 470 but it seems like you could just leave the mech. pump bolted to the engine so you wont be left with a hole, and just hook the lines together at the original pump and put an electric pump in-line somewhere. You would have to make sure the electric pump delivered the right pressure, carburated engines only need a few psi. But why not just replace the original pump and save the headache?
