Question pump sealant

I need to replace a live well pump in my bass boat.
The pump goes through the bottom of the hull and I am assuming it needs to be sealed with something around the base of the pump and threads.

What do i use to seal out water?

can i use household painters caulk?

We use 5200 marine sealant in the ship yard for all thru-hull fittings. Never leaks. You can get it at any marine store.

There isn't one. And it the case of a fitting that could sink the boat if it leaks, it's not something I would substitute to save a few cents.

Thats good advice for sure, thanks.
I just thought maybe there was a substitute that was the same thing like RTV from a hardware store.

Don't tempt me ,if i look at the money i have tossed at the boat i'll wind up putting a cork in it and pulling the plug when i get in 100 ft deep water and calling my insurance man, lol.
It's been one thing after another with this thing.

Can't keep batteries charged, hydraulics went out the second time out, interior needs help, carpet, seats.
trolling motor has about as much power as a paddle with the end cut off, lol.

Get a sail boat. You can buy a lot of GIN for what the fuel costyou use. But then you still have to keep up the sail boat ,so more $$$. Been there done that
