Motor mounts for MerCruiser; how hard to change?
I have a 95 bayliner capri #1950, and I think the motor mounts are busted at the rear (engine was slightly bouncing the last time out). How hard are these to change? I can't even tell what I'm looking at back there but the rubbers look spaced - I guess my question is, do I need to pull the motor or is this something you can do as is? Please help, thanks in advance!

The rear mounts are imbedded in the bell housing assembly on the Mercruiser engines. If the mounts are indeed broken or seperated from the bell housing, you would need to pull the engine to change them out....btw this type of failure would be very rare, I've several bushings shift in the bell housing but the typical complaint is that engine alignment cannot be achieved.
Are you sure the rear mounts are broken? The rear motor mount bolts have a flat washer under them, then a spacer below that....this sometimes can look deceiving like the mount has dropped. I would suggest reaching under the rear motor mount bolt and washer, you may discover that there is a metal spacer under the washer. You may also consider tightening the bolts to make sure they are not loose.
Good luck,
MM
