Question NEW Merc 4 cycle engine or Yamaha outboard

I will be shopping for a 9.9 outboard engine and need advice please. Mercury 4 cycle or 2 cycle, and a dealer who sells Merc also recommended Yamaha also as a good choice.
Thanks in advance for tour opinion.
Stephen.

Both good brands. 2-cycle is the direction you want go.
More money than a 2 stroke.
I had a merc 2 stoke 8hp several years ago. great motor.

I believe that 2 cycle is now outlawed in some places, beginning in California... and, as goes California - so goes the rest of the nation eventually....

I meant to say the 4 cycle is the way to go. Sorry for thre misprint.
Also, a 4 cycle burns cleaner and you don't have to mix the gas/oil. A little less "OOMPH"! than a 2 cycle though.
