90 HP Evinrude problem

I have a 1987 Crestliner with a 90 HP Evinrude. When it is turned on, the engine continues to rev up rather than idle - any ideas on why this may be happening?

It sounds like it has a needle valve stuck in the open position or possibly a float problem.
At any rate, Johnson - Evinrude motors commonly act up quickly due to dirty carbs. Sitting in storage in the winter slowly cause varnish build up and the carbs need to be cleaned when they start acting "funny" in any way.
Another symtom to watch for is difficulty starting and idling. The motor runs great on top end but idles horrible and hesitates badly on take off.

Good luck
