Pontoon Cover Snap Question

Are the the threaded snaps self tapping or does one have to drill a starter hole into the aluminum rail? I bought a cover that doesn't line up right with the snaps that are already on my boat. Thanks!

Not sure what you're referring to, but imagine you're talking about the male portion of a snap fitting and where it attached to the boat. These can be either screwed in or riveted. The screws can make their own hole (though I prefer a started guide hole drilled - and rivets need to be pre-drilled.
