I need help re-building the rear hinged back-rest

The rear-hinged back-rest on my 1984 16.5 ft
open bow I/O sun runner flew off on the Hi-way and i need to rebuild one. and I'm not quite sure how to measure the curves over the dog house cover.Any help or comments would be appriciated.

We like to make a template out of cardboard before we cut any plywood.
You may want to coat it with resin too to keep it from warping. scott
