power winch

Just got a new trailer and I need another 2 feet of wire for my power winch. What size wire should I get and where do I splice it to?[battery side or cut some place in the middle]

Instead of splicing it, can you just add another section of wire rope or chain to the end? Hook to hook, like an extension cord. Or spend a bit extra and replace all of the wire.

I wouldn't splice it at all. IMO any boat that's heavy enough to require a power winch will stress a splice.

I'm confused. Rick sees your problem as being the steel cable on the winch. I read it as being the electrical wire feeding the winch motor. mailman2, can you un fog my feeble brain?

I would splice a piece at the battery end. If the wiring is heavy gauge, similar to a battery cable, I would go to an auto parts store and find a positive cable of the length I needed and they should also have connectors to splice them. If they don't have what you need, buy a cheap set of jumper cables and cut one to your needs. The big box stores should also have splicing materials and many gauges of wire. If unsure of the gauge, just cut a little piece off the end and take it with you for matching.
