Remanufactured Engine Reccomendation

I am trying to decide whether to rebuild my 1979 chevy v8 (228 Mercruiser) or buy a remanufactured engine. My engine is just wore out, not damaged.

Any thoughts on reman vs. rebuild?

Any companies recommended for purchase of a remanufactured engine?

Would a 350 be a better choice for a remanufactured engine?

thanks in advance

Ed

The only reman company I have ever used is Jasper, I bet I have used 20-30 of them without any problems. I have no Idea what the cost is but it's worth looking into, figure you will have about a grand in a rebuild if you do it yourself. If you rebuild you will have the pride of doing it but if you go with a reman you will have a warranty.

yes, Jasper seems to be the reliability king, but they are pricey.

Your right, I want to do it myself, but it would be a challenge.

Here is a place in CT. this will give you an idea on pricing. Did you call your local Merc dealer and price an engine from them?
