Black Max carbs & Coils,& timeing

Our boat is a 1999 18 ft Triton 180 Premier.
Our motor is an XR2 Black Max 150 HP.
The Serial # is B176785

We want to time and check the ignition coils to see if they are bad or good. How can we do that ? Also About the carburators. How do we know what the jets are supposed to be (what size). Well let's just ask how to overhaul the carburators and what to look for. It seems that the carburator kits do not come with much hardware, maybe they don't need much we have never had them off.

Anything else we could do to tune the motor????

thanks,

NATE

You are money ahead buying a factory manual as the sync and link process is hard to explain in a forum.

In order to set timing you must first index the timing pointer on the plastic cove because it can move. Another thing you can do that isn't in a manual is index all 6 cyl at TDC and check timing on all 6. You must also unhook the timing advance modual to set timing. This is where a good manual will have a step by step instructions with some pictures to show locations of parts.

To check spark use a timing light on each spark plug lead while running.

For carb rebuilding cyl # 2 and 5 will be richer than the rest so make sure the main jets go in the correct location. Most of the time I don't replace parts unless a gasket tears or it's nasty inside.
