4cyl mercruiser engine in pontoon

engine got hot - replaced water pump, hoses, and boots - now engine will not go over 1000 rpms in water about 30% throttle but runs great - after that engine starts spitting back through carbs - any ideas

Welcome to the forums.

I'm a bit confused. They normally don't put Mercruisers in pontoon boats. Mercruiser is an inboard engine with an outboard drive. Mercury is the outboard brand. Can you post the year & model?

I meant the year & model of the engine. Searches for Crest II show only boats with outboards.

Who did the work??? YOU??? A boat repair shop? Recently? Or sometime over the last 3 years????

A lot of info and details missing. Plenty of space in the reply window to provide it all.

Can't help you until you help us. We all need to know more details and specifics. Kindly advise.
