I have a drum and I cant tell whether it is stainless or aluminium. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to tell just what it is made of in a non destructive manner.
Thanks

try a strong magnet. ss has steel in it and a light pull to the metel may answer you.

Magnet probably will not work. 300 series stainless steels are not magnetic. Stainless is extremely hard compared to aluminum. Try making a mark with an awl or ice pick. It will be difficult on stainless (but doable), but fairly easy on aluminum.

stainless or aluminium

Thanks for the comeback. I tried the magnet and it didn't have any pull at all, then I tried to scratch it with the edge of a new srcrewdriver and that didn't hardly make a mark, So I think I am going to go with the idea that it is stainless.
